We chose our topic because of one reason: we’re both musicians. We both play guitar and love the Beatles. We both already knew a lot about the Beatles and could put our knowledge to use in our History Fair project. There’s really no use in doing a project on something that you don’t find interesting. We found a way to incorporate something we both love in to the theme of National History Day: Turning Points in History. We learned a lot more about the Beatles through History Fair and had fun doing it.
We conducted our research in a number of ways. Some of our main sources were online archives of Beatles news and photos through their career. We also used The Beatles Anthology as a main source throughout the project. It’s full of first accounts from many events in the Beatles career and provided a reliable source for our project.
For our presentation, we chose to do something we both agreed on. Because we both had experience in making websites, and because we both need to work on it together, we decided to create a website with our Weebly accounts. At first we gathered up ideas on how we should each contribute to the project. Thinking, that with an exhibit, one of us could both add on while the other one agrees to display it but, unfortunately we ran into a problem; we’re both really busy after-school so we couldn’t possibly go to other places outside of school to work on the project. After that, we concluded that it was best if we did it at home, so we decided on a website. We began with the introduction and some of the tabs. After a bit, we got writer’s block so we went ahead and checked out to see if there were any books we could use. At home, we both added on to the presentation and emailed each other about ideas and designs. This all resulted to us finishing the project with good information and a nice presentation.
The theme for National History Day this year was a “Turning Point in History”. Our topic, ‘The Beatles and the British Invasion” relates to the theme because the Beatles made a HUGE impact on Americans, English and people all around the world who’ve heard about them. Their combination of rock and pop revolutionized music. Their music spoke to us all, leaving the impact to grow bigger over the years. What started as a small British boy band turned in to a global phenomenon. Their music became really popular. Magazines like Rolling Stones loved them. Without their music, who knows what type of music we would have today. The bands we have today will never surpass the wonderful impact the Beatles had back then and still have today. Comparing one modern band with a few big hits to the Beatles, one of the best bands in history, is simply out of question. Let the music live on.
